Flarty: recommending art routes using check-ins latent topics

Flarty Mobile App

Flarty is a mobile location based social network conceived for the dynamic construction and recommendation of art routes in the city of Florence, Italy, via item based similarity algorithms, places topic extraction and user interest modeling.

To achieve this goal Flarty derives knowledge from users check-ins and combines clustering techniques and recommendation algorithms, as well as features such as geo-location, to define groups of similar artworks or POIs (Points Of Interest) and to compute the most efficient routes likely to meet user’s interests.

Flarty was ideated and designed ​​by Andrea Ferracani and Daniele Pezzatini and was developed by the students Stefano Lombini, Matteo Mazzola and Giovanni Taverriti for their bachelor thesis carried out at MICC under the supervision of prof. Alberto Del Bimbo, full Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Florence with the collaboration of Desideria Andò, student at the Faculty of Industrial Design at the University of Florence, for the graphic design.

Graficami Facebook App

Graficami is a Facebook application which generates an advance infographic of the user’s interests and of the interests that they share with their friends built through information obtained from their public profile. Furthermore Graficami is a social network: each user of the app can visualize the infographic of other users of Graficami, browse their profiles and discover the more similar to him or browse resources he could be interested in.

Graficami extracts from Facebook users’ profiles data about explicit interests (books, movie et cetera), likes to pages and friends. Then it saves the data to csv and json, files used later by the D3 library to generate the visualizations.

Graficami was ideated and designed ​​by Andrea Ferracani and Daniele Pezzatini and was developed by the students Alessio Sarullo and Giulio Galvan for the course in Multimedia Design and Production of Prof. Alberto Del Bimbo at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Florence.

InTime: a social network for video recommendation based on user profiling

InTime is a beta version of a social network developed by the students Daniele Maddaluno and Francesco Gelli as final work for the Bachelor of Art at the Faculty of Engineering of University of Florence under the supervision of prof. Alberto Del Bimbo, Andrea Ferracani and Daniele Pezzatini. The graphic design has been made by Daniele Daveri Niederwinkler for his Bachelor of Arts thesis at the Faculty of Industrial Design of University of Firenze in collaboration with MICC.

The work was born from an idea by Andrea Ferracani and Daniele Pezzatini, researchers at MICC and prof. Alberto Del Bimbo collaborators.

InTime is a novel distributed framework for video commenting and annotations, video sharing and interest discovery that combines recommendation algorithms, clustering techniques, tools for video annotations and evaluation of semantic distances in order to offer targeted multimedia services and to improve and propagate interests and interpersonal connections through the network.
