I've been carrying out scientific research since 1999, working on digital libraries and multimedia databases (Google Scholar profile). On these subjects I've addressed semantic analysis, content indexing and annotation, semantic retrieval and transcoding. In particular, I've worked on news, sports and cultural heritage videos.

I've always worked within EU and national funded research projects.

I've worked for the organization of ACM Multimedia 2010 (in general) and I've been co-chair of the Open Source Software Competition of ACM Multimedia 2010. I've also worked for the organization of the European Conference on Computer Vision 2012 (in general) and I've been co-chair of the Workshop on Web-scale Vision and Social Media 2012 and of the ARTEMIS workshop 2012 .

Audio events in Soccer Videos: audio events commonly found in soccer (sport) videos
MICC Flickr 101: A novel dataset, called MICC-Flickr101, based on the popular Caltech 101 and collected from Flickr. This new collection was conceived with the idea of cloning a reference datasets as Caltech 101, but using realistic representations and also textual descriptions.
