Alberto Del Bimbo
Alberto Del Bimbo is Full Professor of Computer Engineering at the Università di Firenze, Italy. Since 1998 he is the Director of the Master in Multimedia of the Università di Firenze. His scientific interests are pattern recognition, image databases, multimedia and human computer interaction. Prof. Del Bimbo is the author of over 250 publications in the most distinguished international journals and conference proceedings.
Marco Bertini
I'm working as assistant professor at the Dipartimento Sistemi e Informatica of the University of Florence, and I teach at the Master in Multimedia and at the School of Engineering. My research work is in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition, and i mostly work on automatic video analysis, annotation and semantic transcoding.
Stefano Berretti
Stefano Berretti received the doctoral degree in Electronics Engineering and the Ph.D. in Information Technology and Communications from the University of Florence, Italy, in 1997 and 2001, respectively. In 2000, he received the post-laurea degree in "Multimedia Content Design" from the Master in Multimedia of the University of Firenze. Since 2002, he is an assistant professor at the University of Florence, where he teaches "Operating Systems". Stefano Berretti also teaches "Database Systems" at the Master in Multimedia of the University of Florence. His current research interests are mainly focused on content modeling, retrieval, and indexing of image and 3D objects databases.
Roberto Caldelli
Roberto Caldelli was born in Figline Valdarno (Florence), on April 21st, 1970 and he graduated cum laude in Electronic Engineering from the University of Florence in 1997 with a thesis about video motion estimate regularization by means of non-linear and adaptive filtering. From September 2005 he is Assistant Professor at the University of Florence.
Pietro Pala
Pietro Pala received the Laurea degree cum laude in 1994 from the University of Firenze. From the same University, he received the Ph.D. in Information and Telecommunications Engineering in 1997. Presently, he is associate professor at the University of Firenze where he teaches Image and Video Analysis and Database Management Systems for the school of Information Engineering and Fundamentals of Multimedia and Programming Languages at the Master in Multimedia Content Design.
Irene Amerini
Irene Amerini was born in Massa Marittima (GR), Italy, the 31st of December 1980. She received the laurea degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Florence in 2006. Now she's a PhD student in Information, Multimedia and Telecommunication Engineering at University of Florence and she's working at the Images and Communications Lab at the Media Integration and Communication Center (MICC).
Andrew Bagdanov
Andy has been senior research fellow at the Computer Vision Center, Barcelona, where he worked in the fields of active camera control, multiview geometry and semantic image analysis and retrieval. His research spans a broad spectrum of computer vision, image processing and machine learning. He has published over fifty scientific articles in peer-reviewed, international journals and conference proceedings.
Lamberto Ballan
Lamberto Ballan received the MS degree in computer engineering in 2006 from the University of Florence, Italy, where he is currently a PhD student at the Visual Information and Media Lab at Media Integration and Communication Center (MICC). He was a visiting PhD student at the Signal and Image Processing department (TSI) at Ecole Nationale Superieure des Telecommunications, Paris (France), in 2010. His main research interests focus on multimedia information retrieval, image and video analysis, computer vision and related fields such as pattern recognition and machine learning.
Rudy Becarelli
Rudy Becarelli received the Degree in Electronic Engineering in February 2004 at Universita' degli Studi di Firenze with a thesis concerning motion estimation algorithms and their applications. Starting from April 2004 he's a researcher at MICC (Media Integration and Communication Centre) of Florence.
Giuseppe Becchi
Giuseppe Becchi was born in Florence, Italy, in 26th of September 1977. He received her master laurea in computer engineering at University of Florence in September 2003. His thesis was on "Natural interaction with zoomable interface". Now he's working at MICC for Mediateca di Palazzo Medici Riccardi project and as web-developer in his company. His main interests are in the field of cms, information architecture, web usability and accessibility and multimedia databases.
Matteo Casini
Matteo Casini was born in Florence, on July 11th, 1985; he graduated in Telecommunications Engineering on March 26th, 2010 from the University of Florence with a thesis entitled "Study and development of MHP application for payment processing by digital terrestrial TV".
Gianpaolo D'Amico
Gianpaolo D'Amico was born in Catanzaro (Italy) in 1973 and has been living in Florence since 1992. In 2003 he completed his PhD with a thesis about multimedia distributed database. He is member of the board of operations at Master in Multimedia Content Design. His main interests are in the field of web usability and accessibility, information architecture, sound design, multimedia databases, Flash applications, video streaming.
Andrea Del Mastio
Andrea Del Mastio was born in Florence, on September 28th, 1973; he graduated in Electronic Engineering from the University of Florence in 2002, with a thesis concerning the estimation of the quality of digital images. He has obtained the his Ph.D. in Computer Science, Multimedia and Telecommunications, from MICC - Media Integration and Communication Center, Excellence Center of the University of Florence, where he works since 2004.
Andrea Ferracani
Andrea Ferracani was born in Florence, Italy, the 22th of June 1976. He graduated in Literature from the University of Florence in 2001. Postgraduated from the Master in Multimedia Content Design of the University of Florence in 2004. He's currently working as researcher in the Visual Information and Media Lab at the Media Integration and Communication Center, University of Florence. His research interests focus on web applications.
Francesco Filippini
Francesco Filippini graduated in Telecommunications Engineering at the University of Florence in November 2003. From July 2000 to June 2002 as a consultant and technical computing at UMS (United Medical Software), Tuscan company leading manufacturer of medical software.
Fernando Franco
Fernando Franco was born in Ronciglione, Viterbo, in 1981 and has been living in Florence since 2001. He received the laurea degree in computer engineering from the University of Florence in 2008, with a thesis on "Local shape extraction using interest point". He's currently working as researcher at the Visual Information and Media Lab at the Media Integration and Communication Center, University of Florence. His research interests focus on computer vision, pattern recognition and computer graphics.
Nikrooz Hosseini
Nikrooz Hosseini is currently collaborating with MICC as web developer on Drupal platform for the FIRB project VIVIT which connects MICC and the Accademia della Crusca for the creation of a web portal aimed at second/third generation Italians living abroad, concerning several aspects of Italian history, language and culture.
Svebor Karaman
Svebor Karaman has obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Bordeaux in 2011, with his thesis entitled "Indexing of Activities in Wearable Videos : Application to Epidemiological Studies of Aged Dementia". He has joined the MICC – Media Integration and Communication Center, at the beginning of 2012 as a postdoctoral researcher, where he is highly involved in the Mnemosyne project
Lea Landucci
Lea Landucci was born in Florence, Italy, in 5th of November 1977. She received her master laurea in computer engineering at University of Florence in July 2004. Her thesis was on "Multiuser Natural Interaction environments". Now she's a postdoc working at Media Integration and Communication Centre. Her main interests are on computer vision, interaction design and cognitive psycology and their influence on natural HCI systems.
Giuseppe Lisanti
Giuseppe Lisanti was born in Venosa, Potenza, in 1982 and has been living in Florence since 2001. He received the laurea degree in computer engineering from the University of Florence in 2008, with a thesis on "Multi Target Tracking with Pan Tilt Zoom camera". He's currently a PhD student at the Visual Information and Media Lab at the Media Integration and Communication Centre, University of Florence. His research interests focus on computer vision, pattern recognition, multimedia information retrieval and computer graphics.
Iacopo Masi
Iacopo Masi was born on September 6, 1983 in Florence. He received a Master’s Degree cum laude in computer Iacopo Masi was born on September 6, 1983 in Florence. He received a Master’s Degree cum laude in computer engineering from the University of Florence in 2009 with his thesis “Feature-based Localization and Mapping of Wide Areas with a PTZ Camera”.
Paolo Mazzanti
Paolo Mazzanti is currently working as researcher at MICC Media Integration and Communication Center, University of Florence. His research interests focus on graphic design and web design, project and creation of multimedia applications for cultural heritage, graphic design for DTT–MHP applications. He attended the E-Learning2 2008 Project for creation of digital contents – Italian Digital Library e Touristic Cultural Network– ICCU - Ministry of Cultural Heritage- . Other area of interest is metadata regarding Cultural Heritage and protocol for interoperability.
Federico Pernici
Federico Pernici received the MS degree in computer engineering from the University of Florence, Italy, in 2002, and received the PhD degree on informatics and telecommunications at the University of Florence in 2006. His research interests are computer vision, pattern recognition, and computer graphics. He is currently a postdoc working at the Dipartimento di Sistemi e Informatica at the University of Florence and is affiliated with the Media Integration and Communication Centre.
Daniele Pezzatini
Daniele Pezzatini was born in Florence, Italy, in 21st of June 1985. He gradueted in computer engineering at University of Florence in April 2010. His thesis was on "Multi-touch environment for semantic search of multimedia contents". Currently he's working at the Visual Information and Media Lab at Media Integration and Communication Center. His main research interests focus on natural interfaces and environments, web languages and usability.
Francesco Picchioni
Francesco Picchioni received from the University of Florence, Italy , the M.Sc. degree (Laurea) in Telecommunications engineering in 2004. He received a 2-years research grant (2004-2006) from the University of Florence to research on Analysis of Spectral/Spatial characteristics and information extraction from Remote Sensing High-Dimensional Image Data.
Lorenzo Seidenari
Lorenzo Seidenari was born on 31 March 1980 in Fiesole (Florence), he received a laurea degree in computer engineering from the University of Florence, with a thesis on "Human action recognition using spatio-temporal interest points" in 2008. He's currently a PhD student at Visual Information and Media Lab at Media Integration and Communication Centre, University of Florence. His main research interests are focused on application of pattern recognition and machine learning to computer vision and specifically in the field of human activity recognition.
Giuseppe Serra
Giuseppe Serra is a Ph.D student at the Dipartimento di Sistemi e Informatica at the University of Florence. He was a visiting student at Advanced Multimedia Processing Laboratory, Carnegie Mellon University, USA in 2005 where he worked on his thesis "Self-calibration of two camera by observation of a moving person on a ground plane". He graduated in computer engineering at University of Florence in 2006. His research interests focus on multiple view geometry, in particular self calibration and 3D reconstruction, and video understanding based on statistical pattern recognition and ontologies.
Tiberio Uricchio
Tiberio Uricchio was born on 5 April 1985 in Florence. He received a laurea degree in computer engineering from University of Florence, with a thesis on "Annotation and retrieval systems for transcribed video content semantic-based". Currently he's working at the Visual Information and Media Lab at Media Integration and Communication Centre, University of Florence. His main research interests focus on application of machine learning to image and video analysis and pattern recognition.
Past and visiting researchers
Thomas Matteo Alisi
Thomas Matteo Alisi worked for a long time as project manager and researcher at the Media Integration and Communication Center, where he received also a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Multimedia and TLC. His research activities spanned from semantic web to interactive environments, while during the same period he tried hard not to loose the contact with the real world and helped with server administration and project management.
Dario Comanducci
Dario Comanducci received the MS degree in computer engineering from the University of Florence, Italy, in 2004 and he is currently waiting for discussing his thesis for the PhD degree on Informatics and Telecommunications at the University of Florence. The thesis deals with the empoyment of 2D warping transformations to recover 3D information, with applications to 3D reconstruction and eye-gaze estimation tasks. His research interests are computer vision and pattern recognition, with applications in 3D reconstruction, human-computer interaction and image based rendering.
Fabrizio Dini
Fabrizio Dini was born in Florence, Italy, the 22th of September 1973. He received the laurea degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Florence in 2006, with a thesis on "Particle filter - based real - time visual tracking with adaptive parameter estimation". He's a PhD student currently working as researcher in the Visual Information and Media Lab at the Media Integration and Communication Center, University of Florence. His research interests are mainly focused on visual tracking and pattern recognition.
Carles Fernández Tena
Carles currently holds a postdoctoral position at the Computer Vision Center (Barcelona). During his period at MICC, Carles collaborated with the group of Alberto del Bimbo and Marco Bertini on the topics of event interpretation and uncertainty management of human-based video sequences in surveillance scenarios.
Andrea Grifoni
Andrea Grifoni was born in Florence, Italy, the 27th of May 1983. He received the MS degree in computer engineering in 2007 at the University of Florence with a thesis on "An Uncalibrated system to acquire biometric imagery at distance". He's been working as researcher at the Visual Information and Media Lab at MICC until April 2008 with research interests focused on Computer Vision, Pattern recognition and Visual tracking for automated video surveillance systems.
Arjun Jain
Arjun Jain is currently a PhD candidate at the computer graphics group at the MPI Informatik, Saarbrücken, advised by Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Thormählen and Prof. Dr. Hans-peter Seidel. He is interested in working on problems related to structure for motion and 3D vision.
Diego Mencarelli
Diego Mencarelli, new media consultant at Tirreno Unicoop and student of the first edition of the Master in Multimedia Content Design of the University of Florence in the academic year 1998/1999, where since some years co-teaches a course on Human-Computer Interaction, in particular the module on web accessibility and W3C standards. He is the designer and creator of the online version of Nuovo Consumo.
Marco Meoni
Marco Meoni was born on June 23, 1984 in Florence. He received the master's degree cum laude in computer engineering from the University of Florence in 2009 discussing a thesis on information visualization: "Interactive visual representations of complex information structures". He is currently a PhD student at Visual Information and Media Lab at Media Integration and Communication Center, University of Florence and an invited professor for "Web languages and programming" at the Master in Multimedia Content Design. His current research interests are mainly focused on Biomedical image analysis and processing, and multimedia semantic information retrieval.
Walter Nunziati
Walter Nunziati completed his Laurea Degree in Engineering in 2001, and his Phd in Computer Science in 2005, both at University of Florence, with a short period at Boston University. He's been working as a post-doctorate in the group of Professor Alberto Del Bimbo, until December 2006.
Carlo Torniai
Carlo Torniai is an Ontologist and a Research Scientist with a wide range of experience across several areas of Computer Science and Information Technology. Carlo is now affiliated with Oregon Health & Science University - Portland, OR. Carlo worked at Media Integration and Communication Center from Jan. 2002 to Aug. 2007 as Researcher and Project manager.
